Frequently Asked Questions
- Is there an approximate cost for this competition?
There is NO COST to enter the RICC 2009 competition.
- Approximately how big will the robots be?
As covered in the RULES, "It is recommended that the demonstration prototype fit in a
1 m wide x 1 m deep x 2 m tall envelope. Competition teams with robots exceeding this
envelope must contact the contest administrator for approval. Robots utilizing flammable
or combustible fuels will be accommodated outdoors in a designated area." Thus, an
interpretation of this verbiage would indicate that robots of all sizes will be considered.
Since the prototype demonstrations will typically be done in a room on the second floor,
an elevator ride is required to get there, and the size envelope insures it will fit. If a robot
is to be demonstrated outdoors, accommodations will also be made if at all possible, and
size would be less of an issue. In either case the prototype robot size "envelope"
mentioned is approximate and does not represent critical "do-not-exceed" dimensions.
The goal of the RICC is to see robotic innovations, thus we want to encourage all types of
entries.
- Will this be a table top competition?
No, it will not be a table-top competition. The RICC competitors will be able to
demonstrate their robotic entry capabilities individually, in whatever manner they require.

- In the rules, does "University-level" pertain to four year institutions or are two year
institutions allowed to compete?
Two year colleges are eligible to compete in the RICC.
